Call for Papers
National Conference on Academic Writing in Higher Education
Abstract
Several studies reported on the poor research competences possessed by the students in higher
education, which can make the process of authoring Master dissertation/Doctorate thesis in English
somehow erratic. The authoring skills and feasible knowledge passed on by supervisors and research
methodology teachers to the students are predominant in attaining a joined-up piece of writing.
Investing time and effort to submit a dissertation/thesis that remains shelf-bending in the university
library has no point except writing a good idea and not so many read it. When attempting to publish
a research paper, the odds to receive a rejection are to be taken into account. Beginners in academic
research writing may consider the repudiation as a failure. Non-native researchers of English find the
task of meeting the writing requirements of academic research very challenging, as they have to
master the writing conventions, the language style, the paper format, and referencing that are in
accordance with manuscript guidelines of a specific journal. The methodologies adopted to perform
this form of writing regardless of the variant disciplinary fields of work have common grounds in
data description, analysis, and discussion which, when published should reach large audience in order
to share findings and receive feedback from experts in the domain. Therefore, the conference aims to
bring together researchers and practitioners to provide their expertise and insights about the authoring
process, academic writing dilemmas, and academic writing pedagogies.
